A DELEGATION FROM the Volta Region of Ghana led by the Regional Chairman, Mawuko Agbavitor made a cutesy called on the former President John Dramani Mahama to officially announce the passing of Ambassador Oscar Ameyedowo.
The entourage from Volta Region also visited the NDC leader and National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and his National Executives to make same official funeral announced.
The final funeral rite of the late Ambassador will commence on 10th and 11th February, 2023 at Dabala, after Sogakofe in Volta Region.
According to former President John Dramani Mahama, the late Ambassador Dr. Ameyedowo served the NDC faithfully.
He disclosed that Dr. Ameyedowo was instrumental in arranging his first meeting with the current Chinese President who was then Vice-President of China.
Former President JDM further hinted that when Dr. Ameyedowo was the Ambassador, he opened many other opportunities for the NDC government some of which resulted in the construction of the Atuabo Gas project.
Dr. Ameyedowo was former Member of Parliament for the people of South Tongu in the Volta Region from 1992 to 1996. He was former Director of National Lotteries all under the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
With the former President John Dramani Mahama were the NDC running mate Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, as well as former chief of staff, Julius Debra before entourage made the official announcement of the demise of the former Ambassador.
According to the leader of the family, the former MP was taken ill in a short period and gave out the ghost which was sudden by the whole family.
On his part, Mr. Kofi Attor briefed former President John Dramani Mahama on the reason former President J. J. Rawlings reassigned the late Ambassador to China after he gave up on the parliamentary seat in 1996 as he J.J. doesn’t want his usefulness to go waste.
As his former bosom friend, he explained how himself, two other friends worked on the late Oscar Ameyedowo through Mr Morgan Nyendu and the late Gascony to contest for the Parliamentary seat in the first Parliament.
Late Ambassador Ameyedowo, until his demise was a member of NDC Council of Elders of both the Volta Regional and South Tongu Constituency. Other members with the entourage were MP for South Tongu, Komla Mensah Woyome and his Constituency Chairman, Michael Tsikudo amongst a number of others.
