THE HON. MEMBER of Parliament for the people ofthe awaso East Constituency in Accra, Mc Nasser Mahama Toure has organised a health screening for his people.
In an interview with Nationaltymes.com he said a huge number of people in the area are suffering from various curable sicknesses that lead them to their untimely graves. This was because some of them do not have the National Health Insurance Cards to access even primary healthcare, the MP hinted.
He also pointed out that following the hardship many of these people, mostly the youth do not have the money to go for check up because the health insurance scheme does not cover some ailments they are suffering from.
To this effect, he collaborated with a health team formed at the 37 Military Hospital to organise this free healthcare for the people to look healthy and fit. He expects that this exercise could help to reduce the risk of the people dying of curable diseases such as malaria, typhoid, high Blood Pressure (BP), amongst others.
This problem, according to Mc Nasser, prompted him more to ensure the screening come of to reduce this health problem amongst his people in the Ayawaso East Constituency. He disclosed to this portal that the exercise would be replicated in other electoral areas within the Constituency.
He noted that more of such exercises will subside the health problems with his people. Mc Nasser Mahama Toure advised the people to take advantage of such health screening seriously to know their health status, especially the youth. He also urged them to try and visit health centres to live and look healthier and fit always; especially because they will be needed going into the 2024 general elections.
The Ayawaso East Constituency NDC Chairman, Mohammed Ramnie Alabi alias Killer said the event was a laudable one, importantly because the party in the area has in mind series of health Walks to embark on; so the people need to be physically fit for the walks to prevent any unforeseen casualties in the process.
Some of the patients in an interview with Nationaltymes.com said they were very happy when they heard the announcement in their various houses of the screening today. They complained of lack of money to go for check ups, others have no NHIS Cards to go to hospital.
The turnout was massive, and it indicated that the people really needed help to look healthy. The Chairman was grateful to the medical team that came to carry out with the exercise. He saluted one of the team leaders, Dr. Khadel Mahama, 37 Mlitary Hospital for his dedication to ensure the programme ended successfully.
The people were screened of various ailments including HIV, Eye problem, malaria, typhoid, diabetes, breast cancer, BP amongst others. Some medicines were provided and patients are to go and buy some at the pharmacy.
