NDC Elects Gen. Mosquito as new National Chairman

Delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) attending the party’s National Delegates Congress have elected Johnson Asiedu Nketia, aka General Mosquito as their preferred national Chairman for a-four term.

FIFI FIAVI KWETTEY, GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE NDC.

The two fiercely contested positions were the Chairmanship and Secretaryship positions which trended across the country. Prominent of these being the National Chairmanship position which was keenly contested by the chief scribe of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, aka General Mosquito and the incumbent Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo aka Sammy Photo.

The highly attended delegates conference also elected Fifi Fiavi Kwettey as the new General Secretary of the NDC.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia, aka General Mosquito pulled 5574 votes acrossthe16 regions representing – 65.17%; Ssmuel Ofosu Ampofo pulled 2892 votes representing – 33.81%; Samuel Yaw Adusei had 52 votes representing – 0.61% whilst Nii Armah Ashitey also pulled 38 votes representing – 0.44% respectively.

At the Secretary position, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey pulled 4536 votes; Peter Boamah Otokunor pulled 2584 and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah had 1401 votes.

About 63 aspirants contested for various positions in their quest to help bring back the NDC to power when given the nod, by the little over 9000 NDC delegates who to voted to elect the party’s national executives.

The Theme for this year’s NDC National Delegates’ Conference is “Rallying For Victory 2024! Ghana’s Hope”.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia won virtually all the regions as if Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo has not gone round to meet the delegates and campaign for votes. Below is the table.

About 19 aspirants contested for the National Executive Committee (NEC) member position and Vice-Chairman position, 7 persons.

The number of contestants of other positions were Deputy Secretary, 7; Organiser, 7; Deputy Organiser, 5; Deputy Communications Officer, 5. The Communications Officer has sailed through unopposed; and 5 petsons for National Zango Caucus Coordinator position.

The party folks from all walks of life, thronged Accra Sports Stadium yesterday, Saturday, December 17, 2022 to witness the elections from 17 centres created for the polls.

People have described the new crop of NDC team as “deadly and will be hot for the ruling NPP to handle going into 2024 general elections”; hence the theme for this year’s NDC National Delegates’ Conference was “Rallying For Victory 2024! Ghana’s Hope”.
