AYAWASO EAST Municipal Assembly (AEMA) in the Greater Accra Region has held a Commemoration on the 2022 Municipal World AIDS Day celebration in the area.

United Nations AIDS (UNAIDS) has designated 1st December every year as a day to commemorate the World AIDS.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the AEMA, Hajia Selma Mohammed Sani Kuta celebrated the day with quiz organised for the primary and basic schools in the Municipality.

The quiz questions which were based on HIV and AIDS, was to educate the school children on bad side of stigmatization, discrimination, inequalities against HIV, AIDS infected persons in the community as well as abstinence.

It was noted that the causes of HIV/AIDS pandemic are things that could be prevented. To this, UNAIDS is urging everyone and countries alike to help address the barriers which are holding back progress in ending AIDS.

Hajia Selma Sani Kuta in an interview with Nationaltymes.com said, stigmatisation and inequalities against persons living with HIV, AIDS worsens their situations which leads them to their untimely death.

She hinted that the Assembly finds it prudent to commemorate this day with the young ones by involving the schools to create awareness and abstinence in their minds about HIV/AIDS at their age mainly because most of them are sexually active.

The school children who were picked from the primary and JHS levels to contest the quiz were selected from Kanda AMA JHS and Primary; 37 Primary and JHS; Nima 1 primary and JHS and Institutes of Islamic Studies respectively.

Kanda AMA primary walked away with certificate and a trophy for the first position followed by the Institute of Islamic Studies while 37 and Nima Primary Schools placed third and fourth respectively.

At the JHS levels, the Flagstaff House JHS lifted the trophy at stake with 25 points, Institute of Islamic Studies emerged second with 19 points; Saint (ST.) Kizito JHS had 11 points whilst Kanda AMA JHS 9 points respectively.

Some chiefs from the Municipality, led by Chief Louis, Chairman of Zango chiefs; Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Adiza Tassa, represented by Nuhu Mohammed and other opinion leaders were in attendance and colourfully graced the occasion.
