The inspiring Greater Accra Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Organizer Elect, Felicia Mekpoi Bortey has argued that although she was retained, it is the party that won and the ultimate is to return the party to power.
She made this argument in an interview with Nationaltymes.com after the region’s delegates election conference for both the Youth and Women’s Wings in Accra last Friday, November 11, 2022 where she emerged as the NDC Women’s Organiser elect for the Greater Accra Region.
She dedicated her win to God Almighty for making it possible for her to be retained ones again as the leader for the NDC’s women’s front in the region.
According to her, the NDC’s delegates election is purely internal democratic contest which ensures they come together to unite against their common political enemy.
She appealed to all her colleague contestants to support her with their rich ideas and experiences to help in galvanizing more young women to vote for the NDC in 2024 general elections in order for the party to return to power in 2025.
The two strong women who aspired for Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organizer position were, Happy Ogboo and Lucy Rio Sebbie. The incumbent, Mrs. Mekpoi Bortey retained her position as the Women’s Organiser with 46 votes, whilst Ogboo and Sebbie had 24 and 9 votes respectively, out 109 vote cast.
She told this portal in an interview that she started as a grassroot person and rose through the ranks; and today, hard work, support to the branch and the Constituency levels were what won her the favour of the delegates to retain her for the position for the forth time.
The retained Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organizer, Madam Mekpoi Bortey has expressed her gratitude to all the 109 delegates for reposing confidence and retaining her to continue with her good work.
She hinted that she had trained over 3000 women in various areas of skills to ensure they are empowered to be self-employees. Mrs Mekpoi Bortey promised to continue with the training to cover areas that are yet to benefited in the region.
She reiterated her call to her colleague contenders to join her to help increase the number of Parliamentary Seats across the Greater Accra Region by working hard to increasing the votes for the NDC and the former President John Dramani Mahama to return to Flag-Staff (Jubilee) House in 2025.
