The Melcom Group of Companies has its 2 years partnership agreement with Ghana Black Stars renewed as the team prepares for the 2022/23 World Cup in Qatar in November.
During the signing of the Memorandum of UnderstandIng, MOU, in Accra on October 6, 2022, Melcom urged the Black Stars Players for Qatar World Cup to play their hearts out in order to catapult the team throughout the group stages, to raise the flag of Ghana high.
Sending an appeal message to the Stars through the Ghana Football Association, GFA, Godwin Avenorgbo, Melcom Group of Company’s Communications Director advised every individual player to see himself as an integral part of the Black Stars team.
He charged them to “abhor Selfishness on the field of play and understand that Ghanaians are happy whenever a goal is scored regardless of who registers the goal”.
At the short ceremony in Accra for the official signing of the Memorandum of Understand between Melcom and GFA, the Communication Director, Mr. Avenorgbo added that from the spectator and supporter point of view a goal is a goal and since it takes goals to win a football match, “all we are saying is that every member of the Black Stars Team is a potential goal scorer whose contribution is badly needed to register a win at all stages of the Qatar World Cup into the Finals”.
According to him, a failure to do so will amount to breaking the hearts of the majority of Ghanaians and we need not emphasize that any further.
“….in the area of Football development we wish to suggest the adoption of the old adage SANKOFA as a tool for rediscovery”, he suggested.
The signing off an understanding between two giants representing inter related industries; Sports and Retail-for two years, renewable.
Mr. Avenorgbo adding, pointed to the fact that, “as Melcom works toward needs-satisfaction to enable comfortable living standards at home, work place, school, industry, community and wherever two or three are gathered, so also does the Ghana Football Association concern itself with the physical, mental and social development of all and sundry engaged in the game of football and it’s related activities”.
He mentioned that, the Passion of Football at the national or international level unites the country, and “it is that time when the magic of Football makes the colour of a team’s Jersey speak in favour of the national flag and we all respond in unison; eager for a goal at every opportunity and a win at the blast of the final whistle”.
We must go back to retrieve a workable solution which used the inter schools and colleges as breeding grounds for talents to feed the senior clubs in the Premier League and the National representative sides of both Male and Female, he lamented.
“….we believe that catching them young will boost the supply of talent and energy level of the young grassroots into the National Teams which fly the flag of Ghana within the International Football Arena”, he noted.
Godwin Avenorgbo, an ace Broadcast Journalist also submitted that, every region has talented young ones who can help broaden the selection base into more formidable Premier League sides leading into a re-energized national side.
Hence, the proposition that, “it won’t be surprising that any activity generated at the level of schools and colleges as an all year round developmental process can serve as an attraction to draw investment support from Good Corporate Citizens in Ghana.
“…such a plan driven by investment will keep Football alive at all levels across the length and breadth of Ghana”, he points out.
The Ghana Football Association was pleased to have Melcom as an official retail partner of GFA for the next two years.
The President of GFA, Kurt Okraku used the occasion to thank the management of Melcom and asked Ghanaians to rally behind the entire ‘Black Stars Team’, The Technical Team in order to come out with flying colours.
