President Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has been noted for his flamboyant speeches instead of taking illegal mining serious and stop the menace.
The government is noted to have no clear clue and plans in combating the illegal mining because their apparachitks are deep-necked perpetrators.
Comrade Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) revealed that government functionaries and NPP officials have engaged themselves in the illegal mining activities called galamsey.
To him, President Akufo-Addo who has been commending his appointees, party people and financiers, prefers plenty talks to taking actions against these illegal miners who have destroyed all the water bodies in Ghana.
He said, “leaders are elected to solve problems but President Akufo-Addo came to create more problems for the country only to turn around to message the problems with flowery speeches and empty promises”.
He has closed further that there are some main persons in the NPP the NDC’s next government will investigate and prosecute.
They include, Bernard Antwi Bosiako a.k.a. Wontumi, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling NPP; Ekow Ewusi, 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Central Region and Charles Bissiw, also a leading member of the New Patriotic Party.
Comrade Sammy Gyamfi of the NDC says these persons are all actively engaged in illegal mining aka galamsey.
Addressing the media in Accra, he revealed that there is enough evidence to prosecute and jail the trio for their involvement in illegal mining which is destroying water bodies, forest reserves and farmlands in the country.
Comrade Lawyer Gyamfi said it will be the saddest day in his life if NDC in power fails to prosecute chairman Wontumi and others to serve as a deterrent to other people who might want to venture into illegal mining.
“The saddest day in my life will be the day NDC fails to prosecute chairman Wontumi, Ekow Awusi and Charles Bissiw for engaging in mining without permit.
“….we have enough visual evidence to prosecute these people and all the key members of the NPP who are actively engaged in the illegal menace,” he indicated.
Comrade Sammy Gyamfi has described President Akufo-Addo’s renewed commitment to fight galamsey as a mirage, scam and a lost battle.
He said the government’s score card on the fight against illegal mining (galamsey) is an unmitigated disaster.
Comrade Gyamfi pointed out that the NDC is not against mining in the country but it is against mining in water bodies and expected the government to critically deal with the people involved in such illegal activities.
