The Legislator for the people of La Dade-Kotopon Constituency, Madam Rita Naa Odoley Sowah has done it again for bringing another smile on the face of a Person with Disability (PWD) in the area.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is commemorated every 3rd December since 1992, to promote access and equal participation of persons with disabilities at workplaces and life in general because disability does not mean inability.
Hon Odoley Sowah was of the view that society need not to forget such group of persons when the “World Disability Day Commemoration” comes people should try to show love at least for ones with them so that they may not feel rejected in society.
To this effect, the MP donated a standing hair dryer to a disabled hairdresser, Fostina Afaribea to empower economically to run her salon well. Madam Ofeibea specialised in various hair styles ranging from plating to anumber of other styles, and for this reason she has lots of apprentices she trains.
This appealed to the Member of Parliament for La Dade-Kotopon who prepared additional envelope containing a token of Ghc200 for her to get some more wigs for her job.
Hon Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, who has PWDs at heart, explained that she has been working with PWD organisations for over a decade and she supported a number of their members within her Constituency throughout their education.
Some of them were Mina, Farida, and Gilbert Asamoah Ayebeng, graduate of Ghana’s premier University, Legon and Vice-President, Ghana Federation of Disability Organization in La; and for love, she cannot stop supporting that is why every 3rd December, she tries to make some donations to those in that category for them to also be happy.
According to her, she had met with lots of pwds who exhibited talent and knowledge which shows that if they had little push, they could be more beneficial to families and society even better than those without any deformities.
She further mentioned working with the Ghana Federation for Disability Organisation (GFDO) with one Mr. Adarkwa as the Coordinator to help champion the well being of disabilities in La Dade-Kotopon.
In addition, Hon Rita Naa Odoley Sowah is currently a member of Greater Accra Visual Impared Association.
She condemns people who look down on people with disabilities in their localities instead of taking the pain to offer them support in their small ways for God’s blessings.
Madam Fostina Afaribea was so grateful and thanked Hon Rita Naa Odoley Sowah for the honour done her, she also thanked the NDC NDC Constituency chairman OB, and her leaders who led Hon MP to present her with the dryer.
Some of the association leaders of PWDs at the presentation ceremony thanked the Hon MP for her continues support in diverse ways to empower their members for their well being in life.
