Ghanaians who throng to witness the commissioning of the Pokuase Inter-change over the week lauded former President John Dramani Mahama for making the project a reality.
They also commended President Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo who supervised the project to its current level where he hurriedly commissioned part for use by the general public.
Nana Akufo-Addo, on November 25, 2020, commissioned the Phase One of the former President John Dramani Mahama Pokuase Inter-change during his (Nana Addo) 2-day tour of the Greater Accra Region.
Nationaltymes.com gathered from the section of Ghanaians who came to witness the opening of the project, saluted JM for his vision for such a magnificent Inter-change and acknowledged the supervising role of President Akuffo-Addo for ensuring the project is executed well despite the delay.
The 2 years project which was signed in 2016, expected to commence in January 2017 to 2018 after President Mahama secured the funding from Africa Development Bank, but Nana Akuffo-Addo halted it for it to appear his government funded the whole project, hence delayed and started in April 2018.
Instead of the originally proposed a 3-tier urban interchange, the contractor, after undertaking an engineering assessment, agreed with the Ministry of Roads and Highway to the proposed 4-tier Inter-change.
President Akufo-Addo, at the ceremony, opened to traffic part of tier-3 of the Inter-change, which is the road from Awoshie to Accra and the road from Nsawam to Awoshie.
The project co-ordinator at the site told the President that other tiers of the Interchange will be opened for use by the general public and motorists in the second week of December, adding that by March ending, they would have completed the entirety of the 4th tier.
In addition, President Akufo-Addo was informed that some five kilometres of storm drains have also been completed to prevent flooding in the downstream.
