GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL NDC CHAIRMAN,  EMMANUEL NII ASHIE MOORE.

THE GREATER Accra Region has completed the vetting of 420 aspirants for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) positions.

The process, which began on January 20, 2025, is part of a nationwide effort to fill leadership roles across the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across the country.

In the Greater Accra Region alone, there are 420 aspirants who have submitted their documents to vie for the 29 seats.

In an interview with Nationaltymes.com, the Greater Accra Regional NDC General Secretary, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, described the process as transparent and rigorous.

He noted that the vetting was in response to a directive from the presidency to shortlist three candidates per district for final consideration. Of the three, the President will appoint one for assembly approval.

Mr. Tetteh Chaie expressed satisfaction with the smoothness of the exercise so far, crediting the aspirants for adhering to directives not to bring supporters to the vetting center. He stated, “The vetting is centered on competence and alignment with the vision of the party and the President.”

However, the committee has faced challenges, including issues with some aspirants’ membership status and discrepancies in academic qualifications, prompting detailed background checks.

The vetting committee, which includes three young lawyers, has been working long hours, starting early in the morning and concluding after midnight.

Despite these hurdles, Mr. Chaie assured that the vetting will produce candidates capable of advancing the President’s development agenda for the region.

He emphasized that all shortlisted candidates are qualified to manage the affairs of their respective districts or municipalities effectively.

The names of three shortlisted candidates from each of the 29 districts in the region will be forwarded to the presidency, where the final nominees will be selected and presented for assembly approval.

This exercise reflects the party’s commitment to filling critical leadership positions with competent individuals to foster development across the nation.
