IN A SIGNIFICANT move, the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has appointed Nana Oye Bampoe Addo as the first Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration.
With an illustrious career spanning over 32 years in human rights law, litigation and advocacy, Nana Oye brings extensive experience to the role. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Ghana, Legon and a Master’s in Law (LLM) specializing in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
Her career is marked by a steadfast commitment to advancing gender equality, public health, governance and children’s rights at national, regional and international levels.
Nana Oye previously served as the Africa Regional Coordinator for the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (2004–2008) and founded the Human Rights Advocacy Centre in 2008.
A champion of legislative reform, she played a pivotal role in the passage of landmark laws including the Children’s Act (1998), Criminal Code Amendment Act (1998) and Domestic Violence Act (2007). She is also celebrated for her efforts in mobilizing NGOs to monitor human rights violations and ensure government accountability.
The appointment is seen as a strategic step by President Mahama, reflecting his administration’s dedication to promoting governance and social justice.
