THE CENTRAL Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted allegations of bias, corruption and unfair treatment in the ongoing vetting process for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Central Region.

These allegations, purportedly made by Daniel Bassey, a Branch Secretary in the Awutu Senya East Constituency, have been circulating on social media.

In an official statement signed by Deputy Regional Secretary, Eric Offei, Esq., the NDC categorically dismissed the claims, describing them as “unfounded, malicious and wicked untruths.”

The statement emphasized that the Regional Vetting Committee, chaired by Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, remains committed to the party’s core values of fairness, equity, probity, justice and inclusivity.

Transparency at the Forefront

The Central Regional Vetting Committee assured the public that the vetting process is transparent and adheres to strict ethical guidelines.

It highlighted the committee’s dedication to upholding meritocracy, competence and demonstrated capacity as key criteria for selecting candidates.

According to the Secretariat, this year’s vetting process is one of the most transparent and inclusive in the history of the party in the region.

Unity and Accountability

The statement reaffirmed the committee’s goal of preserving party unity while strengthening its base for future endeavours. “The Professor Richard Asiedu-led Vetting Committee has not engaged in any acts of bribery or corruption.

The process is watertight and insulated from any manipulation, whether real or imaginary,” the statement read.

Action Against Allegations

The leadership further revealed that disciplinary actions are being considered against Daniel Bassey for his purported anti-party conduct. Key party figures, including the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hon. Dr. Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor and constituency executives, have expressed their intent to address the issue within the framework of party regulations.

Commitment to Democratic Accountability

The Central Regional Secretariat reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, fairness and equity throughout the vetting process. “We remain mindful of the enormity of the task handed to us and are resolute in upholding the principles of true democratic accountability,” the statement concluded.

The NDC leadership called on all party members to support the process and remain focused on strengthening the party’s mission across the Central Region.
