THE NATION’S BUILDER, PRESIDENT JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA, WELCOMED.

GOLDSTAR AIR has officially extended a warm welcome to John Dramani Mahama as Ghana’s new administration leader, expressing its commitment to collaborating with the government to drive economic growth and transform the nation’s aviation industry.

The Ghanaian airline, which has already secured an Air Carrier License from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and is awaiting a Safety Certificate, announced plans to operate services to 18 international destinations. These efforts, it claimed, will create a significant economic impact, including generating over two million direct and indirect jobs.

Strategic Vision for Ghana’s Economy

Goldstar Air’s CEO, Eric Bannerman, shared an ambitious vision to position Ghana as a 24-hour aviation hub and a vital transit point between continents. The airline highlighted plans for transit facilities and immigration reforms, allowing passengers to tour parts of Ghana without visas while in transit. Such initiatives aim to boost tourism and stimulate local economic growth.

“We are confident that collaboration with the new administration will lead to advancements in Ghana’s aviation sector and beyond,” said Bannerman.

Ambitious Claims Amidst Caution

Goldstar Air claims its operations could contribute over 60% to Ghana’s GDP — a figure analysts have deemed highly optimistic. Similarly, its projection of creating two million jobs has been met with skepticism, given Ghana’s economic scale and aviation sector size. Nonetheless, the airline reiterated its commitment to economic transformation, pointing to the global aviation industry’s $3.5 trillion contribution to GDP as a benchmark.

Strengthening Partnerships and Infrastructure

The airline announced partnerships with Boeing and other global aviation stakeholders to enhance operations. It also highlighted plans to establish maintenance bases, cargo operations and a training school in Tamale, with Kumasi and Accra set to host key international flights. Routes include Washington, Dubai, London, Toronto, and Lagos, among others.

Goldstar Air’s strategy includes leveraging Ghana’s diverse cultural heritage and natural resources to promote tourism. Plans are underway to name flights after prominent Ghanaian personalities and landmarks to honor local heritage and enhance global recognition.

Broader Impact and National Initiatives

The airline proposed an annual National Thanksgiving Day in Ghana to foster unity and boost tourism. Inspired by the U.S. Thanksgiving model, this day would feature interfaith services, community gatherings and cultural celebrations.

Goldstar Air also highlighted potential economic gains in related industries, including tourism, cargo and in-flight catering, referencing global market data to underscore Ghana’s untapped potential.

A Call to Action

As Goldstar Air prepares to launch operations, it has called on the public, stakeholders and international partners to join in its vision for a thriving aviation sector and a revitalized economy. “Together, we can build a brighter and more prosperous future for the country,” the airline stated.

HER EXCELLENCY VICE-PRESIDENT PROF. JANE NAANA OPOKU-AGYEMANG.

With the backing of Ghana’s new administration, Goldstar Air aims to redefine the nation’s aviation landscape, positioning it as a key player in Africa’s economic transformation.
