FOUNDER AND LEADER of Diaspora Progressive Movement (DPM) based in the United Stated of America, Dr. Lawrence Appiah has harangued that Ghana has no one who is really working as a President in the interest of the people.

Dr. Appiah lamented saying if truly Ghana has a working President, the Volta lake spillage would not have occurred, because the Managing Director (MD) of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa knew any mismanagement of the Volta lake spillage could cost him his job. Because he would not handle the spillage in this haphazard way; but it appears like, “let’s intentionally cause the mess and then later explain”, DPM Leader stated.
According to him, in a statement sent to Nationaltymes.com, there were calls in 2018 for President Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo to reshuffle his Ministers/CEOs/MDs following incompetence on their parts, but he turn down the calls and some member of ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) defended it; and thought they were hurting only the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“They now seen that because there is no a working President in Ghana to do a reshuffle, we have the biggest spillage mess in the history of Ghana. And they are still talking as if the rest of us don’t think and so we don’t know”, DPM Leader bemoaned.
He further argued that assuming the CEO/MD and the Engineers at VRA don’t know the Protocols for Risk Damage, the last time there was such a spillage from the Volta lake was in 2010 and was well managed, so the onus lies on the current management under President Akufo-Addo to just follow what was done in 2010; “or was it because it was an NDC government that did it, that was why the dam spillage was competently done?”, Dr. Appiah quizzed.

According to Dr. Appiah, the governing NPP and VRA’s defense now is that if they had not opened the lake to spill and the lake broke by itself, it would cover the whole of Tema township, Greater Accra, Eastern, Brong, and Northern Regions.
“They should stop annoying us the more; who has argued that they shouldn’t have opened the lake to spill? It is the haphazard way they handled the management before, during and after the spill we are talking about”, retorted Dr. Lawrence Appiah. Stressing that “…. they should take responsibility, apologize and compensate the affected people; that is what good leaders do”.
The NPP and VRA leadership are claiming they communicated the dam spillage and the relocation to the affected people. But the MPs in those constituencies and the affected people are also saying there was no such assimilation programme. DPM Leader asked “…so, even communicating an imminent danger too, these NPP government and VRA leadership failed?”.

Disturbed Dr. Appiah indicated that after this worrying development, President Akufo-Addo went to Mepe, the most affected area in the Volta Region to do his usual politics, and in the end, insulted the chiefs and people of the region. And members of the ruling NPP were saying, he was just joking and that no one should politicize the Volta lake spillage.
“Why would they not say so? Didn’t Kwabena Agyepong said in the Electoral Commission (EC) strong room during 2008 general elections that there were no human beings at Hohoe in the Volta Region? Who punished him for saying that?
“From where I sit, I can say that the Volta Lake Spillage is man-made, intended to cover up something. It could be Cecilia Dapaah and the Special Prosecutor, Prof. Frimpong Boateng and the Attorney General or their failed Presidential election campaign, which seem not to catch any fire”, challenged Dr. Lawrence Appiah.
He further argued that the Akosombo dam spillage could also be used to plan something sinister with the EC or another big scandal coming up, maybe, bigger than the clandestine 15 years Lithium contract.

The NPP will not deliberately cause such a big mess unless they have something bigger than the mess coming up. NDC and Ghanaians better watch out, he charged.
