MR. PHILIP Sosi has been elected the new Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ayawaso East after securing a decisive victory in the constituency’s executive elections held over the weekend.
Mr. Sosi polled 496 votes to defeat his two contenders, Wahab Amui Futa, who obtained 228 votes, and Issah Ali Wonder, who secured 278 votes.
Both defeated candidates are former constituency executives, with Mr. Wonder having previously served as the constituency’s election director and Wahab Amui Futa former treasurer.

Mr. Sosi’s victory marks a new chapter in the leadership of the Ayawaso East NDC, a constituency where Muslim chairmen have reportedly led the party since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1992.
His election is being viewed by supporters as a reflection of the democratic and inclusive nature of the party, where leadership is determined by the choice of delegates and a candidate’s record of service rather than religious background.
Ayawaso East is home to both Muslim and Christian communities, which have coexisted over the years. Supporters of the new chairman say his victory demonstrates that competence, commitment and service to the party can unite members across religious and social lines.
Mr. Sosi is a longstanding party member who began his political journey as Chairman of the Roman Branch ‘B’ before rising through the ranks to become the constituency’s Deputy Treasurer.

During his time as Deputy Treasurer, he was credited by party members with helping to strengthen financial accountability and transparency by using his personal resources to facilitate the opening of bank accounts for all wards in the constituency.
He is also recognised for his humanitarian support, particularly his assistance to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and health partners that organised free medical screening exercises for residents at the Nima Government Clinic.
His contributions reportedly included providing food, bottled water, canopies, chairs and other logistical support to help the organisations carry out their activities.

A delegate, commenting on the outcome of the election, said Mr. Sosi’s victory reflected the desire of party members for a change in leadership and an executive capable of delivering results.
The new chairman is expected to work with party executives, grassroots supporters and other stakeholders to strengthen the NDC’s structures and promote unity within the constituency.
His leadership will also be expected to foster cooperation among the Muslim and Christian communities, traditional leaders, women and the youth in pursuit of the common interests of Ayawaso East.
For supporters of Mr. Sosi, his election represents an opportunity to build a stronger constituency organisation anchored in accountability, service and strengthening religious tolerance.
As he begins his tenure, attention will be on his ability to unite members across the constituency, consolidate the party’s grassroots structures and work with other stakeholders to advance the development of Ayawaso East.
