THE MEMBER of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Lawyer Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim, have continued their commissioning exercise in the municipality with the opening of two modern toilet facilities for schools.
The two facilities, which are expected to improve sanitation and create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning, are located at the ACC Cluster of Schools and the Flagstaff House Cluster of Schools.

The first facility commissioned was a 10-seater toilet block at the ACC Cluster of Schools, located between the Nima Roundabout and the Nima Divisional Police Headquarters.
The facility had been out of use for a long period due to its deplorable condition, leaving teachers and pupils without adequate toilet facilities.
The second project was a 20-seater toilet facility for the Flagstaff House Cluster of Schools, located near Flagstaff House in the 37 Military Hospital area.
Addressing the media and the teachers at the various schools, both the MP and the MCE assured the school communities that they were committed to using the Common Fund allocated to the municipality by the government to improve infrastructure and other basic facilities.

They said school children and teachers deserved decent and dignified facilities that would make them feel comfortable and motivated to teach and learn.
At the ACC Cluster of Schools, the MP and MCE also commissioned two renovated classrooms and oversaw the painting of the entire classroom block, giving the school a new and attractive appearance.
Lawyer Baba Jamal further assured the school authorities that the existing Kindergarten block at ACC Cluster of Schools would be demolished and replaced with a new and befitting facility to provide the young learners with a safer and more conducive environment.

Receiving the facilities on behalf of the schools, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. William Tsekpo, expressed profound gratitude to the MP and the MCE for the intervention.
He said the schools now had convenient toilet facilities with a reliable water supply to ensure that the water closets functioned properly.

Mr. Tsekpo, however, acknowledged the poor maintenance culture that had affected several school projects in the past and assured the MP and MCE that the Education Directorate would put measures in place to ensure that the new facilities were properly maintained and served the schools for many years.
At the Flagstaff House Cluster of Schools, one of the female teachers appealed to the MP and MCE to assist in fixing one of the faulty traffic lights along the 37 Highway.
According to her, the non-functioning traffic light posed a serious danger to school children who crossed the busy road daily, particularly during the morning and after school when they travelled to and from their homes.
She appealed for urgent attention to the traffic light to help protect the lives of the pupils and other pedestrians who use the road.

The teachers and pupils expressed their appreciation to Lawyer Baba Jamal and Hon. Abdul Ganiyu Ibrahim for the projects, saying the improved facilities would contribute to a better and more comfortable learning environment.
The commissioning forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ayawaso East leadership to improve basic infrastructure and address some of the pressing needs of schools and communities within the municipality.
