THE STORY of Lawyer Samuel Adu Gyamfi, popularly known as Sammy Gyamfi, is one of ambition, determination and a steady rise through Ghana’s political and public life.

Born in Sunyani on March 28, 1989, Sammy Gyamfi has, at 37, established himself as a lawyer, politician and public communicator.
He currently serves as National Communications Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
His journey did not begin at the national level. He attended St. James Seminary Senior High School and later studied at KNUST, where he became involved in student leadership.
He proceeded to the Ghana School of Law, Makola, to pursue his legal education and later attended executive leadership programmes at the Harvard Kennedy School.
His early professional experience included working as a Public Relations Officer and aide to Kojo Bonsu, former Mayor of Kumasi and Ghana’s Ambassador to China.
Building a Political Communication Brand:
Sammy Gyamfi became NDC National Communications Officer in 2018 and retained the position in 2022.
His period as the party’s communications chief was marked by an aggressive and confident approach to political communication. He became a familiar face on radio and television, defending the NDC’s policies while challenging the positions of its political opponents.
His communication style has attracted a large following among NDC supporters, while also making him a target of criticism from political opponents.
Nevertheless, his ability to communicate complex political issues in a direct manner has helped him build a strong public profile.
Taking Charge at GoldBod:
His appointment as Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod brought him into a different area of public responsibility.
Under his leadership, GoldBod has pursued reforms aimed at bringing greater organisation and state oversight to Ghana’s gold trade.
Among the initiatives associated with the new system are district-level gold-buying centres, digital traceability and measures designed to protect the domestic gold trade.
Efforts have also been made to promote local refining and ensure that Ghana retains more value from its gold resources before export. The reforms have placed GoldBod at the centre of national discussions about Ghana’s gold industry, foreign exchange and the wider economy.
Politics, Debate and Leadership:
One interesting aspect of Sammy Gyamfi’s public life is his exchanges with Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Their debates, often reflecting the positions of the NDC and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), have become part of Ghana’s political conversation. Such engagements can be useful to democracy when they are based on facts, evidence and respect.
There is therefore a need for both politicians and the public to verify claims before accepting or sharing them. Misquoting political figures or deliberately taking statements out of context can mislead the public.

Sammy Gyamfi’s journey from a young student leader in Sunyani to a national political communicator and GoldBod CEO offers an important lesson about determination and preparation.
His story also shows that young Ghanaians can rise to positions of national responsibility when they combine education, hard work, confidence and a clear sense of purpose.
