THE MEMBER of Parliament for Ayawaso East Constituency, Hon. Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal, has outlined a number of development projects aimed at transforming Ayawaso East and improving the living conditions of residents.
Speaking during the opening of his new constituency office, Hon. Baba Jamal said his decision to leave his ambassadorial position and return to serve the people was deliberate.
He said he was returning with a clear plan to work for the development of the constituency and assured residents that he was prepared to deliver on his promises.
Among the projects outlined is the construction of a new secondary school for the constituency, with support from the Government of Ghana.
He also mentioned plans for a 24-hour market with an underground facility, a new municipal office and the construction of asphalted roads across the constituency.
Other projects include the establishment of a dialysis centre and dental clinic at the Nima Government Polyclinic, as well as a nursery unit for the Nima Police Station.
Hon. Baba Jamal also said discussions were ongoing with the Ghana Water Company to find lasting solutions to the water challenges facing residents.
He said the projects would be pursued with urgency because Nima had been left behind for too long. According to him, while other areas may be walking, Nima must be prepared to run in terms of development.
The MP also described his new constituency office as a centre where residents could seek assistance, advice and support, regardless of their political affiliation.
He said the office would be open to students, job seekers, women and other residents who needed support.
Hon. Baba Jamal, aka Ascolondo, disclosed that about GH¢2.5 million had been committed to support 200 women through loans and other financial assistance to improve their businesses and livelihoods.
He further announced that a day in each month would be set aside for constituents to meet him directly. Residents would be required to book appointments in advance.
On education, he said discussions were ongoing with a Law school headed by Mr. Ansah Asare in Kanda to provide selected students with a 50 per cent scholarship, while he would personally support them with an additional 25 per cent of their fees. This, he said, would leave beneficiaries to pay only 25 per cent of their fees.
Hon. Baba Jamal urged residents and local leaders to support the development agenda, describing Ayawaso East as the “Star Constituency.”
He said the area had the potential to shine and called for unity and cooperation from all residents to make the development vision a reality.
