THE YOUTH Employment Agency (YEA) has firmly denied reports alleging that it spent GH¢9 million on a turkey berry production project, describing the claim as false and misleading.
The Agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abdul-Wahab Jawando, dismissed the allegation, stating that it is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the institution’s reputation.
“Claims that YEA spent GH¢9 million on turkey berry production are entirely baseless and represent a calculated effort to damage the institution’s well-established reputation,” he insisted.
In a statement in issued in Accra, Jawando clarified that the Agency is not currently implementing any project related to turkey berry production. “As of today, the Youth Employment Agency is not running any project or module related to turkey berry production, let alone spending GH¢9 million on it,” he added.
Providing further context, Jawando explained that the reports appear to stem from a proposed initiative captured in YEA’s 2025 approved budget. The programme was intended to train approximately 2,000 young people in turkey berry cultivation and value addition.

According to him, although the initiative received approval in principle from the Ministry of Finance, it was never rolled out.
He stressed that no contracts were awarded, no training programmes were conducted, and no funds were disbursed, citing financial constraints as the reason for its non-implementation.
Jawando reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the prudent management of public funds, urging the public to disregard the misinformation.
