THE MUNICIPAL Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South Municipality, Hon. Joseph Antwi Awal, has embarked on an institutional tour of schools across the municipality to assess challenges confronting learners and teachers and to explore practical solutions.

During the visit, the MCE toured several basic and secondary schools, where he interacted with students and staff to gain first-hand insight into the difficulties affecting teaching and learning.

A key concern raised by teachers was the lack of basic amenities and adequate infrastructure in many schools. Some institutions are grappling with shortages of classrooms and furniture, creating an unconducive learning environment that negatively impacts academic performance.

Hon. Awal acknowledged the concerns and assured stakeholders that steps are being taken to address the issues. He noted that plans are underway to mobilize resources and provide the necessary infrastructure and teaching materials to improve conditions in the schools.

He further pledged his continuous support to enhance teaching and learning across the municipality.
As part of the tour, the MCE also inspected several abandoned projects initiated by the previous administration.

He expressed disappointment over the neglect of these projects, describing the situation as a setback to the development of the municipality. He, however, reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the stalled projects are completed for the benefit of residents.

The Municipal Education Director, Mr. Jonathan Korsinah, described the visit as a significant initiative that demonstrates the MCE’s dedication to improving the education sector in the municipality.

Mr. Korsinah highlighted the lack of adequate infrastructure, particularly teachers’ quarters, as one of the major challenges facing schools. According to him, many teachers are posted to communities without accommodation, making it difficult for them to effectively discharge their duties.

He also stressed the need to strengthen security measures for teachers, noting that safety concerns affect their day-to-day activities and overall productivity.

Beyond infrastructure and security, the Education Director raised concerns about students’ health. He explained that limited access to healthcare services poses risks to students’ well-being, which can in turn affect their academic performance.

Mr. Korsinah further noted that the MCE’s visit brought renewed attention to abandoned projects and underscored the need for proper planning and effective implementation to prevent future projects from being left incomplete.

He commended Hon. Awal for his proactive approach, stating that the visit not only highlighted the pressing challenges within the education sector but also demonstrated a firm commitment to finding sustainable solutions.

Education remains the bedrock of every progressive society, and the MCE’s intervention is expected to contribute significantly to improving teaching and learning outcomes in Nkwanta South Municipality.
