MEMBER of Parliament for the Salaga-South Constituency in the NorthernRegion, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimiah, has called on chiefs, youth, settlers and opinion leaders to work collaboratively to sustain peace and accelerate development in Kulaw and its surrounding communities.
She made the call while addressing the grand durbar of the Kulaw 2025 Youth Homecoming held at Buma, under the theme “Building Bridges of Peace: A Shared Responsibility of the Chiefs, the Youth and the Settlers.” According to the MP, unity and mutual understanding remain the foundation for meaningful and sustainable development.
Hon. Ibrahimiah explained that she considered it necessary to address certain issues openly to enable the people of Kulaw to make informed judgments.
Touching on developments following the 2024 general elections—which her party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), won—she noted that the process of appointing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) had commenced, as required after every election cycle.
She disclosed that the East Gonja Municipality received about 21 applications for the position of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). While some applicants reached out to her as the area’s MP, others did not. She emphasized that no applicant acted wrongly, adding that her personal influence over the final selection was limited.
On development, the MP outlined her vision to expand access to education and healthcare, particularly in underserved Prang communities.
She revealed that, in partnership with the Human Secretariat of the National Security, her office is implementing education and health infrastructure projects across selected communities in the constituency.
According to her, Phase One of the initiative has already begun in communities such as Akamadey, Kokodame and Basare, which are benefiting from six-unit classroom blocks and health facilities.
Hon. Ibrahimiah also announced plans to construct a steel bridge at Sarikibona Prang, a project expected to improve connectivity and enhance the movement of people, goods and services between neighboring communities.
Additionally, she noted that the area has been selected as one of the first beneficiaries of an agricultural mechanization center to support farmers and boost agribusiness.
She stressed that none of these interventions would be possible without peace, unity and cooperation, and commended the Kulaw Wura, opinion leaders and the Kulaw Youth Association for initiating and sustaining the annual Kulaw Homecoming.

She expressed her appreciation for the invitation to participate in this year’s celebration. The MP further urged organizers of future durbars to invite heads of key government agencies, including the Education Directorate, Feeder Roads Department and Health Services, to enable them engage directly with residents and respond to local concerns.
She disclosed that an application has already been submitted to the Health Directorate for the renovation of the Kulaw Health Centre. On healthcare financing, Hon. Ibrahimiah highlighted the need to expand enrolment under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure residents can access quality healthcare without financial burden.
She reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with the NHIS office to roll out additional interventions.
Describing education as the backbone of sustainable development, the MP said her office is collaborating with the Ministry of Education to improve access to quality education across the constituency.
She announced that a proposal she submitted for the establishment of a Community Senior High School in Kulaw has been approved, with funding support from GETFund.

In her concluding remarks, Hon. Ibrahimiah assured the people of Kulaw of her unwavering commitment to working with traditional authorities, youth groups, government institutions, NGOs and international partners to deliver impactful development across the Salaga South Constituency.
She urged all stakeholders to deepen unity and continue building bridges of peace for a prosperous future.
She ended by praying for God’s blessings upon Kulaw and the entire Salaga South Constituency.
