THE AHAFO Region is on the brink of a historic developmental milestone as preparations intensify for the commissioning of the long-awaited Ahafo Regional Passport Office in Goaso.

HON. MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND REGIONAL INTEGRATION, SAMUEL OKUDZETO ABLAKWA.

The forthcoming event represents the fulfillment of a long-standing aspiration of the people and a major step in deepening decentralization and inclusive governance.

As the Akan proverb aptly states, “Abrewa ayi poma, ama kwan mu adaho”—after patience and perseverance, the way has finally been cleared.

The commissioning ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, December 31, 2025, will be hosted by the Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Mrs. Charity Gardiner, who is expected to receive the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for the historic occasion in Goaso.

The presence of the two high-ranking government officials underscores the significance attached to the project and the NDC government’s determination to strengthen state institutions in Ghana’s newly created regions.

Advancing Decentralization and Regional Equity:

The establishment of the Ahafo Regional Passport Office forms part of the government’s broader decentralization and public sector reform agenda, aimed at bringing essential services closer to citizens.

Since the creation of the Ahafo Region, residents have consistently called for the establishment of key state institutions to match the region’s new administrative status.

HON. AHAFO REGIONAL MINISTER, MRS. CHARITY GARDINER,

The passport office stands as evidence of NDC government’s commitment to ensuring balanced development and equal access to services across all regions. Its commissioning will significantly reduce the burden on residents who previously had to travel long distances to access passport services in other regions.

Development Impact and Economic Prospects:

From a development standpoint, the new passport office is expected to enhance service delivery, reduce congestion at existing passport centers, and improve processing efficiency.

It is also anticipated to stimulate local economic activity in Goaso through job creation and increased commercial engagement. The facility will empower traders, students, professionals, and other residents of the region by facilitating international travel and global engagement, thereby positioning Ahafo as an emerging administrative and economic hub.

Symbol of Government Presence and Responsive Leadership:

The upcoming event is expected to attract traditional authorities, political leaders, security agencies, civil servants, youth groups, and members of the general public, all gathering to witness a project that symbolizes effective governance and tangible development.

The event sends a strong message that the creation of new regions is being backed by real investment in institutions that directly improve the lives of citizens.
