THE MAJORITY Leader and Leader of Government Business, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has delivered a powerful end-of-year statement in Parliament, highlighting Ghana’s strong economic recovery and exposing the failures of the opposition NPP.

According to Hon. Ayariga, Ghana’s economy is firmly back on track under President John Dramani Mahama and his self-less Vice – President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, thanks to strong leadership, sound policies, and effective collaboration between Parliament and the Executive. He said investor confidence has returned and Ghana is once again earning international respect.

He revealed that global institutions such as the IMF and World Bank have praised Ghana’s progress, a sharp contrast to the economic collapse inherited from the NPP. “This is proof that Ghana is being managed responsibly again,” he posited.

The Majority Leader listed clear economic gains that have improved the lives of ordinary Ghanaians. Inflation, which stood at a crushing 54 percent under the NPP, has dropped sharply to 6.3 percent.

The Ghana cedi has stabilised and strengthened against the US dollar, while public debt has been reduced from GHS 722 billion to GHS 685 billion. Lending rates are also falling, easing pressure on businesses and households. “These are not slogans. These are real results,” Hon. Ayariga stressed.

He also highlighted key promises already delivered by the Mahama-led NDC government, including the removal of nuisance taxes such as the E-levy and Covid-19 levy, which the NPP imposed on struggling Ghanaians.

He announced free tertiary education for first-year students and persons with disabilities, alongside social support programmes under the Mahama Cares initiative.

Other major interventions include the rollout of the 24-hour economy, digital skills training for one million young people, the Feed Ghana agriculture programme, and the establishment of the Gold Board to protect Ghana’s mineral wealth.

Hon. Ayariga called on Ghanaians to reject the negativity of the opposition NPP and take pride in the country’s turnaround. He said the gains being made are the result of unity, resilience, and shared responsibility.

“The future is bright,” he declared. “With continued unity and commitment, we are building a Ghana of prosperity, dignity, and opportunity for all.”
