DISTRUCT Chief Executive (DCE) for South Tongu, Hon. Victoria Dzeklo, on Friday, 19th December 2025, visited the Agave-Kua Electoral Area to observe a practical demonstration by community members who recently received training from the Volta River Authority (VRA).

The training showed residents simple and practical ways to treat dirty water from local sources to make it safe for drinking and household use. Community members also demonstrated how to remove aquatic weeds from rivers and streams using simple tools made from bamboo and plastic drums.

The removed weeds are further processed into charcoal for domestic and commercial use. Hon. Dzeklo, who was accompanied by the Assembly Member for the Kua Electoral Area, praised the participants for their commitment and encouraged them to take the initiative seriously. She described the project as a good opportunity for job creation and income generation.

The DCE urged the trainees to share their knowledge with other communities by offering weed-removal and water-treatment services, which could also serve as a source of income.

She expressed her gratitude to the VRA officials for introducing the innovative and practical programme to the district and pledged her full support to ensure its expansion across the entire South Tongu District.
As part of the programme, participants were grouped into three teams of five members each.

One group focuses on charcoal production, another on aquatic weed removal, and the third on water treatment for safe domestic use. From these groups, four members will be selected to receive advanced training in Akosombo and Kumasi to further strengthen their skills.
