Story By: Emmanuel Anyigba

THE DEPUTY Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in charge of Operations, Mr. Iddisah Yeboah Seidu, this morning led a high-level team to Salaga as part of preparations for establishing a new DVLA district office in the East Gonja Municipal capital.

The visit follows a formal request by the Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah, for a DVLA office to serve residents of East Gonja and neighbouring districts, including North East Gonja, Kpandai and Pru East.

Mr. Seidu was accompanied by senior DVLA officials: Mr. Kafui Semevo, Director of Driver Training, Testing and Licensing; Mr. Sam Abandoh, Director of IT; and Madam Juliana Mensah, Secretary.

They were joined by stakeholders from the traditional authority, the Municipal Assembly and the MP’s office, including Lepowura Abdul-Karim Alaja (representing the Kpembewura), Chief Abu Ibrahim, Deputy Coordinating Director of the Assembly; Mr. Mustapha Nafiu, Director of Special Projects and DRIP Coordinator; and Mr. Saaka Sulemana, Research Assistant to the MP, among other support staff.

After inspecting the temporary site earmarked for the new DVLA office, the team expressed satisfaction with the facility. Mr. Seidu noted that the assessment was commissioned by the DVLA CEO and the Minister for Transport, assuring stakeholders that a detailed report would be submitted for further action.

Speaking on behalf of the Kpembewura, Lepowura Abdul-Karim Alaja thanked the DVLA leadership for responding to the community’s long-standing request. He emphasized that establishing a DVLA office in Salaga is a top priority for the traditional authority and appealed to the Minister for Transport, the DVLA CEO, the MP and the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama, to ensure the project is realized.

He noted that the office will ease the burden on motorists who currently travel long distances to Tamale, Bole or Yendi for DVLA services. He reaffirmed the full support of the Kpembe Traditional Area for the initiative.

Mr. Abu Ibrahim, Deputy Coordinating Director of the Municipal Assembly, welcomed the move and assured the DVLA of the Assembly’s commitment to safeguarding staff and property once operations commence.

Speaking for the MP, Mr. Mustapha Nafiu thanked the DVLA for the swift response to the MP’s request and reaffirmed her commitment to working with all stakeholders—including the Transport Ministry, DVLA, the Municipal Assembly and the Traditional Authority—to see the project through.

The inspection represents a major step toward bringing essential DVLA services closer to residents of Salaga and surrounding districts. Stakeholders remain optimistic that the new office will enhance service delivery, improve convenience and support local development.
