VICE PRESIDENT Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has restated the Mahama administration’s strong commitment to reducing youth unemployment by promoting agribusiness and empowering women.

Speaking to Ghanaians in Iowa, USA, during her visit for the 2025 Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue, she said government policies will support both large-scale and smallholder farmers—especially women who play key roles in local food systems.
“Our employment strategy is practical and inclusive, with agriculture at the centre,” she said. “Ghana’s youth are capable and full of potential. What they need is opportunity and targeted support.”
She added that the government is focusing on creating jobs along the agricultural value chain—from farming to processing and marketing—while also promoting gender equality and rural development.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang stressed that agribusiness growth and SME support will boost productivity, spark innovation, and open new markets for local produce. She also noted that empowering women leads to stronger families and healthier communities.
