PRESIDENT John Mahama has unveiled plans for a tougher axle load policy to curb the destruction of roads by overloaded trucks.
He stressed that the government would strictly enforce axle weight limits to protect public investment in road infrastructure.
“We cannot invest so much in roads only for overloaded trucks to destroy them,” he said.

Under the new policy, offenders will face stiffer penalties, including fines ranging from GHS 5,000 to GHS 50,000, and possible seizure of cargo.
Confiscated goods will be auctioned, with proceeds going to the Road Maintenance Trust Fund.
