THE HON. Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku has officially launched the 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration, announcing that this year’s Grand Durbar and Awards Ceremony will be held in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, on Friday, December 5, 2025.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Minister described the upcoming celebration as a significant milestone in honouring the resilience, hard work, and patriotism of Ghana’s farmers, fishers, and agricultural workers.

Since its inception in 1985, National Farmers’ Day has grown into one of Ghana’s most important annual events, celebrating the people who drive food security, job creation, and economic growth.

Themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future,” this year’s event underscores the government’s commitment to promoting self-sufficiency and reducing reliance on food imports.

The Minister emphasised that the theme reflects the Ministry’s vision to ensure that Ghana produces what it eats and eats what it produces, while fostering inclusive growth and climate resilience.

He explained that the choice of Ho as the host city is both symbolic and strategic — symbolic because of the Volta Region’s rich agricultural heritage, and strategic because it demonstrates the government’s commitment to equitable regional development.

Ahead of the Grand Durbar, a five-day National Agricultural Fair will take place in Ho from Monday, December 1 to Friday, December 5, 2025, in partnership with Agrihouse Foundation.

The fair will showcase Ghana’s agricultural innovations, including mechanisation, irrigation, fisheries, digital agriculture, and value addition.

Minister Opoku expressed appreciation to corporate partners such as Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Exim Bank, Stanbic Bank, and other sponsors for their consistent support.

He also acknowledged the contributions of key collaborators — including the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Ghana Cocoa Board, FAO, WFP, KOICA, World Bank, AfDB, AFD, and the Governments of Italy, the Netherlands, and Canada — for their continued role in advancing Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda.

The total budget for this year’s celebration is estimated at over GHS 20 million, covering national, regional, and district-level activities.

He appealed to corporate institutions, development partners, and philanthropists to support the event in cash or kind, noting that investing in farmers is investing in the nation’s future.
