
CHIEF Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, has led a high-level delegation to the 11th World Free Zones Organization (WFZO) Congress held in Hainan, China, from October 10 to 12, 2025.
The global event, themed “Zones: Gateway to Global Prosperity, Trade, and Sustainable Innovation,” brought together leaders from across the world to explore ways free zones can drive trade and development.
Dr. Awusi participated in a key panel discussion on “Women in Zone Leadership: Breaking Barriers” where she highlighted Ghana’s efforts to promote gender inclusion in leadership, policy, and industrial growth. She stressed Ghana’s commitment to empowering women within the free zones and broader economic space.


During the congress, Dr. Awusi also held bilateral meetings with delegates from Pakistan, Spain, and Costa Rica to explore partnerships in investment, industrial development, and knowledge sharing. She met with the Mayor of Hainan, Mr. Liu Xiaoming, to discuss future collaboration between Ghana’s Free Zones and the Hainan Free Trade Zone.
The congress offered Ghana a platform to strengthen its position in the global free zones network and reaffirm its dedication to innovation, trade, and industrial transformation.

Dr. Awusi was accompanied by officials from GFZA and the Ministry of Trade, including Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, Hajia Hanatu Abubakar-Bimi, Mr. Kingsford Jagre, Dr. John-Hawkins Asiedu, and Dr. Richmond Frimpong.
