THE MILLENNIUM Development Authority (MiDA) is set to play a pivotal role in Ghana’s new agricultural revolution, leveraging its successful track record under the $547 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact to drive the government’s ambitious Grow24 initiative.
Speaking exclusively to the press, MiDA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Alexander Kofi-Mensah Mould, revealed that the Authority will spearhead key aspects of the Grow24 policy, which was recently launched by President John Dramani Mahama under the broader “24hr+” development programme.
At the heart of Grow24 is the transformative Volta Economic Corridor project, which targets the irrigation of over two million hectares of farmland to spur intensive and commercially viable agriculture across Ghana.
Originally tasked with overseeing the MCC Compact, MiDA now assumes an expanded role as a national implementing agency for large-scale agricultural transformation.
“Under the MCC Compact, we successfully developed tested and impactful models that are now ready for nationwide rollout,” Mr. Mould said. “We’re leveraging this strong foundation to support food security, economic diversification, and rural industrialization under Grow24.”
Among the standout achievements of the MCC Compact was its $189 million Agriculture Project, particularly the Land Tenure Facilitation (LTF) Activity. The program strengthened land security, attracted agricultural investments and significantly improved productivity.
Mr. Mould disclosed that MiDA will adapt key components from the Compact—including land preparation, irrigation infrastructure and integrated agronomic systems – to drive Grow24’s bold targets.
He highlighted ongoing projects involving precision land clearing and advanced irrigation designs tailored to diverse landscapes, combining agricultural science, economics and engineering for sustainable, large-scale farming.
The Volta Economic Corridor, regarded as the centerpiece of Grow24, is expected to evolve into a major food production zone, boost export potential and generate thousands of rural jobs.
“MiDA’s role is to provide the technical expertise and management strength that will ensure the long-term success of Grow24,” Mr. Mould stressed.

He added, “Grow24 is a bold vision for agricultural transformation, and MiDA stands ready to deliver.”
With MiDA’s renewed mandate, Ghana’s Grow24 initiative is poised to reshape the country’s farming sector and position agribusiness as a new engine of growth.
