THE GOVERNMENT of Ghana has inaugurated a new Governing Board for the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), marking a major step in its push to strengthen leadership in the petroleum sector.

The new board, chaired by former Energy Minister Prof. Joseph Oteng-Adjei, was officially sworn in on Tuesday, with the ceremony presided over by the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor.

Among the newly appointed board members is Volta Regional NDC Chairman, Mr. Mawutor Agbavitor, whose inclusion has drawn congratulatory messages across political and industry circles.

He joins six other distinguished individuals tasked with steering the state oil company towards operational excellence, investment growth, and long-term energy security.

Full Board Membership:

  • Prof. Joseph Oteng-Adjei – Chairman
  • Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah – Acting CEO
  • Yo Naa Andani Yakubu Abdulai
  • Hon. Hajia Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah (MP)
  • Hon. Seidu Alhassan Alajor (MP)

The Energy Minister stated that the government is currently reviewing the GNPC Act (PNDC Law 64) to modernize the Corporation’s legal framework in line with evolving global energy dynamics and Ghana’s own developmental needs.

The new board is expected to play a key role in navigating the challenges of declining oil production, improving GNPC’s performance, and driving investment into the full petroleum value chain.
