PRESIDENT of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has thrown his weight behind calls for the removal of Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Asare and Samuel Tettey, citing their alleged lack of transparency, accountability, and poor handling of key electoral processes.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on June 28, Cudjoe sharply criticized the Electoral Commission’s leadership, accusing them of recklessness and negligence, particularly in the controversial disenfranchisement of voters from the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi, and Likpe (SALL) areas during the 2020 parliamentary elections.
“The current leadership of the EC has demonstrated high-handedness and evasiveness that have cost the nation dearly,” Cudjoe stated. He emphasized that their conduct threatens Ghana’s democratic foundations and must be seriously scrutinized.
Although he stopped short of personally filing a petition for their removal, Cudjoe revealed that IMANI has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) over the EC’s actions. He stressed that the demand for accountability is not partisan but a matter of institutional integrity.
The IMANI president’s comments follow recent demands by NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah for the EC chairpersons to step down. With Cudjoe now joining the chorus of critics, pressure continues to mount on the Electoral Commission to answer to growing public concerns.
“This is bigger than SALL. It’s about the survival of our electoral credibility,” Cudjoe warned.
The rising chorus of discontent suggests that the EC’s top leadership may face intensified public and legal scrutiny ahead of the next election cycle.
