MINISTER OF ENERGY, JOHN ABDULLAI JINAPOR.

TULLOW GHANA Ltd, in collaboration with its Jubilee partners, has launched a new drilling campaign in the Jubilee South-East area, marking a strategic push to revitalize oil production in Ghana’s offshore sector.

The effort, greenlit by the Ministry of Energy and the Petroleum Commission, signals a renewed confidence in the country’s upstream petroleum potential.

At the center of this initiative is the drilling of the JBE-P well using the Noble Venturer Drillship, which is already stationed in Ghana’s territorial waters.

Drilling and completion are projected to take 60 days, with initial production expected to average 2,800 barrels of oil per day (bopd) by Q3 2025. Production is forecast to rise to 4,500 bopd in 2026.

The operation is part of Tullow’s two-year development programme aimed at sustaining production and improving efficiency across the Jubilee Field. Following the drilling, the rig will undergo a Special Periodic Survey (SPS) before returning in Q4 2025 to continue operations.

The drilling campaign builds on Tullow’s history of delivering 50 wells on schedule and on budget. If successful, the project could recover an additional 7.9 million stock tank barrels (MMstb) of oil by the end of the license period.

The initiative is also backed by comprehensive stakeholder engagement efforts involving over 1,000 local fishermen and leaders, aimed at ensuring collaboration and transparency along Ghana’s coastline.
