Story By: Peter Narteh-Agbeyome – South Tongu.

THE ADUTOR Health Centre in the South Tongu Municipality is undergoing a significant transformation to upgrade into a polyclinic equipped with an Emergency Ward, Outpatient Department (OPD), Pharmacy, and Laboratory.

This initiative, led by Assembly Member Hon. Promise Kwaku Agbanyo, seeks to enhance healthcare services for over 6,000 residents across more than 25 communities.

The expansion project was launched during the health centre’s 45th-anniversary celebrations in September 2024, under the theme “Transforming Lives Through Health; The Role of Adutor Health Centre.”

The event aimed to raise GHS 500,000 to fund the facility’s upgrade. Despite initial fundraising efforts, additional support is needed to complete the project.

As the expansion project progresses, the Adutor community continues to demonstrate resilience and unity, striving to provide quality healthcare for all residents.

Hon. Agbanyo has submitted a proposal to the Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency, Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, seeking further assistance.

He also calls upon the electorate, diaspora, and concerned individuals to contribute in kind or cash. He said the Contributions can be made to the Adutor Development Account at Agave Rural Bank, Dabala Branch (Account Number: 5081210000357321) or via MTN Mobile Money to 0242550157 in the name of Promise Kwaku Agbanyo.

The health centre, established in 1979, currently offers OPD, Maternal and Child Health, Antenatal Care, and community outreach services. However, it faces infrastructural challenges, including leaking roofs, weak ceilings, and unpaved compounds, which hinder accessibility, especially during the rainy season.

Health workers and residents have long appealed to the government for refurbishment support. Despite these challenges, the community remains committed to improving healthcare services, as evidenced by recent initiatives like free eye screening and surgery programmes organized in collaboration with Hon. Maxwell Kwame Lukutor and medical volunteers.
