New Era for Ghana’s Gold Sector: President Inaugurates 13-Member Gold Board

PRESIDENT JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA.

THE PRESIDENT of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has constituted a new Governing Board for the Ghana Gold Board, following consultations with the Council of State.

The appointments, announced in a letter dated May 14, 2025, mark a significant move aimed at enhancing oversight, transparency and efficiency in Ghana’s gold industry.

Kojo Fynn has been named as the Chairperson of the Board, while Sammy Gyamfi Edq. assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer.

The full list of appointees represents a diverse mix of expertise from various sectors:

  1. Kojo Fynn – Chairperson
  2. Samuel Gyamfi – Chief Executive Officer
  3. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, MP – Representative of the Ministry responsible for Mines
  4. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, MP – Representative of the Ministry of Finance
  5. Dr. Johnson Pandit Kwesi Asiamah – Representative of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana
  6. Nelson Ahedor – Representative of the Minerals Commission
  7. Mr. Christopher Opoku Nyarko – Representative of large-scale mining firms (Ghana Chamber of Mines)
  8. Godwin Nickelson Amankwah – Representative of small-scale miners
  9. Kwaku Effah Asuahene – Representative of gold service providers
  10. Shaibu Mahama, MP
  11. Dr. Abdul-Basiti Aziz-Bamba
  12. Marietta Appiah-Gyewaa Brew
  13. Nana Ama Amissah III

The final four appointees bring specialized knowledge and experience in gold-related functions, with at least one woman, Nana Ama Amissah III, among them in compliance with gender inclusion directives.

The President has directed an immediate swearing-in of the new Board to ensure a swift commencement of work.

This development signals the government’s commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s gold sector through strategic leadership and stakeholder representation.
