EBOW BUCKMAN Buckman, a prominent member of the Movement for Change’s communications team, has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that the party should not be considered a credible alternative for governance, even if the current administration led by President John Dramani Mahama fails to meet expectations.

Speaking on TV3’s New Day programme on Friday, May 9, Buckman emphasized the need for Ghanaians to prioritize the competence and character of individual presidential candidates over traditional party loyalty.
“May God forbid. But even if this government fails, do you think the alternative should be NPP? If we are a serious country and truly want development, we must understand that the most important person to make things happen is the president, not the political party,” Buckman stated.
He further questioned the rationale behind automatically supporting NPP candidates, urging citizens to critically assess the capabilities of those seeking the presidency.

Buckman also criticized the NPP for comparing actual economic performance during their tenure to projected targets set by the current government, labeling such comparisons as misleading.
“When this government presented its first budget and projected 4% growth, the NPP said, ‘Oh, we left you with 5.7% growth. So projecting 4% means you’re setting Ghana backward.’ But how can you compare an actual outcome to a projection?
In 2024, the NPP projected 3.1%, revised it to 4%, and achieved 5.7%. Now you’re comparing that outcome with a projection by this government and claiming it’s a sign of decline. That’s misleading,” he explained.
The Movement for Change, led by former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, has positioned itself as a viable alternative to the dominant NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parties.
The movement advocates for a government of national unity and emphasizes the importance of selecting leaders based on merit rather than party affiliation.
Buckman’s remarks align with the Movement for Change’s broader message that Ghana’s progress depends on electing competent and visionary leaders, regardless of their party backgrounds.
As the political landscape evolves, the Movement for Change continues to challenge the status quo, urging Ghanaians to consider new approaches to governance and leadership selection.
