THE GHANA Journalists Association (GJA) has declared the arrest of a suspect in the Ahmed Suale murder case as a victory in its relentless campaign for justice.
However, it has urged the Ghana Police Service not to become complacent but to ensure a thorough prosecution.
The suspect, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, also known as Amakye, was arraigned before the Madina District Court on March 19, 2025, and is set to reappear on April 1, 2025.
The GJA, which has consistently pressured authorities for action, commended IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno and CID Director-General DCOP Lydia Yakubo Donkor for securing the arrest. However, the association also cautioned that an arrest alone does not equal justice.

“For six years, we have demanded justice for Ahmed Suale,” said GJA General Secretary Kofi Yeboah. “This arrest is important, but justice will only be served when all those behind his murder are convicted and punished.”
The GJA reaffirmed its watchdog role over the case, warning that if concrete progress is not seen by the end of March 2025, it will take the matter to the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice.
Beyond Suale’s case, the GJA has also demanded updates on other journalists attacked in Ghana, including the case of Latif Iddrisu, which the association has already flagged for potential legal action at the regional level.
GJA has also escalated the case internationally, informing the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), both of whom have pledged to advocate for justice globally.
“We will not stop here,” Yeboah emphasized. “We will ensure that no journalist’s life is taken without consequence. The Ahmed Suale case must set a precedent.”
