THE Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly has donated six brand-new motorbikes to the Municipal Health Directorate to improve healthcare delivery, especially in remote communities.

The motorbikes are expected to help health workers reach communities that are difficult to access because of the municipality’s mountainous terrain.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Joseph Antwi Awal, said the donation was necessary to help health workers perform their duties effectively.
He explained that the area’s mountainous landscape made it difficult for health workers to reach some communities using ordinary vehicles.
“Nkwanta South is a mountainous area which needs motorbikes to reach hard-to-access places,” he said.

Hon. Awal expressed confidence that the motorbikes would make it easier for health workers, including community health nurses and immunisation teams, to travel to remote communities and provide essential healthcare services.
He said the Assembly was committed to supporting the Health Directorate to improve healthcare delivery across the municipality.
The MCE also appealed to the Ministry of Health, philanthropists and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to support the Nkwanta South Municipal Hospital.
He said the hospital needed renovation and more specialist doctors to help treat patients with serious illnesses.

According to him, the shortage of specialist medical personnel makes it necessary for some patients to be referred to hospitals in other regions for further treatment.
He therefore called on stakeholders to support efforts to improve the hospital’s infrastructure and provide the medical staff needed to serve residents effectively.
Receiving the motorbikes, the Municipal Health Director, Mr. Evans Attivor, thanked the Assembly for its continued support for healthcare delivery.
He said the motorbikes would improve the movement of health workers and make it easier for them to reach communities where healthcare services were needed.

Mr. Attivor assured the MCE and the Assembly that the Directorate would maintain the motorbikes properly to ensure they remained in good condition and served their intended purpose.
The donation is expected to strengthen community healthcare delivery and improve access to essential health services for residents, particularly those in hard-to-reach communities in the Nkwanta South Municipality.
