CONSTITUENCY VICE-CHAIRMAN.

National Tymes News Desk

PHILIP Sosi has made history in the Ayawaso East Constituency of the Greater Accra Region after winning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairmanship election, becoming the first Christian to occupy the position in the constituency since the beginning of the Fourth Republic.

Mr. Sosi, a former Roman Branch ‘B’ Chairman and former Deputy Treasurer, secured 496 votes to defeat Issah Ali, who obtained 278 votes, and Wahab Amui Futa, who polled 228 votes.

His victory emerged from the NDC’s constituency executive elections held on October 24 and 25, 2026, across the country, as the party renewed its leadership structures ahead of the next four years.

The outcome marks a significant moment for the constituency, with Mr. Sosi now expected to lead efforts to strengthen party unity, deepen grassroots engagement and mobilise supporters for the NDC’s future political activities.

The elections also produced a new team of constituency executives who will work together to advance the party’s interests and consolidate its support base.

EXECUTIVE MEMBERS ELECTED:

The candidates who secured the highest votes in the executive members’ category included Musah, Fati, with 127 votes; Ibrahim, Nuhu Nigali, with 80 votes; Kassim, Laila, with 77 votes; Morkeh, George, with 59 votes; Abdallah, Tondi Ashimiyu, with 55 votes; and Mamudu, Fulera, who also received 55 votes.

Mohammed, Fuseini, and Muniru, Abdullah, tied with 40 votes each. The tie means the final determination of the eighth position will need clarification from the constituency election authorities before the complete list of eight executive members can be confirmed.

The exercise was described by delegates as peaceful, transparent and credible, with the Constituency Elections Committee supervising the process in line with party guidelines.

The newly elected executives are expected to work closely with the Member of Parliament, Hon. Baba Jamal, to strengthen cooperation between the party’s constituency leadership and its parliamentary representation.

Their success will depend on their ability to unite members, strengthen the party’s grassroots structures and prepare the constituency for the political challenges ahead.
