DEPUTY National Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Ako Gunn, has declared his intention to contest for the position of National Communication Officer, pledging to strengthen the party’s communication structures and train its grassroots members.
Mr. Ako Gunn is campaigning under the slogan “Kun Fa Yakun” as he seeks to lead the party’s national communication team.
In a statement announcing his decision, he expressed gratitude to the NDC and paid tribute to the communication team led by Sammy Gyamfi, describing it as one of the best the party had produced.
He said innovative approaches, including strategic panel placements and press conferences held at specific locations, had improved the party’s communication activities despite the challenges and attacks it faced.
“I give the utmost respect to my boss, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., my colleagues Kwaku Boahen and Malik Basintale, and our directors, Uncle Kakra Essamuah and Obuobia Darko-Opoku. Together, the transformation was seen in the communication outfit,” he stated.
Mr. Ako Gunn said he had served the party for more than 30 years in various capacities, giving him the experience needed to contribute to its continued growth.
His roles, he said, included serving as Chairman of the Okaikoi North Finance Committee for four years, a Branch Executive for 12 years, a member of the Greater Accra Communication Committee for eight years, and Deputy National Communication Officer for eight years.
He said the experience he had gained over the years would help him serve the current generation of party members while preparing younger members for future leadership.
Outlining his vision, Mr. Ako Gunn said one of his key priorities would be to train branch and constituency executives in the art and science of communication.
He explained that the training would equip grassroots members with the skills needed to communicate effectively and project the achievements of the NDC government.
“No one anywhere can tell the story better than you,” he said.
Mr. Ako Gunn also recounted his early political journey as a young Assemblyman in Niiboi Town, where he was sometimes referred to as an “Assemblyboy”.
He expressed appreciation to the people who mentored, encouraged and supported him throughout his political career.

He specifically thanked former FEC Chairman, Hon. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo; NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia; and his colleagues on the FEC and NEC for their guidance, support and comradeship.
He also acknowledged the financial and moral support of his family, friends and other supporters, describing their contributions as a major source of encouragement throughout his journey.
Paying special tribute to his immediate superior, Sammy Gyamfi, Mr. Ako Gunn described him as kind, passionate, dedicated, bold and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to humanity.
He pledged that, if elected National Communication Officer, he would serve with humility, passion and a fearless voice.
He ended his statement by expressing gratitude to God for bringing him this far and his belief that better days lay ahead.
“Thank you, Lord, for bringing me this far. It has never been my strength or power, but you, O Lord, who have shown me mercy. There are better days ahead,” he added.
