FORMER Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Betty Krosby Mensah, has officially announced her intention to contest for the position of National Women Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), subject to the party’s guidelines for its upcoming internal elections.

In a statement issued on Monday, the former legislator said her decision came after months of reflection, wide consultations and an extensive tour across all 16 regions of the country to interact with party members, particularly women at the grassroots.

According to her, the nationwide engagement gave her the opportunity to listen to the concerns, aspirations and expectations of women in the party, while gathering valuable ideas on how to strengthen the NDC Women’s Wing.

“I have listened to their voices, shared in their experiences, and received valuable counsel on the direction they believe our Women’s Wing should take,” she said.

Hon. Mensah, who also served as Senior Technical Advisor to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, said her decision to seek the position is rooted in her desire to serve the party rather than personal ambition.

She described women as the backbone of the NDC and stressed the need for leadership that values their sacrifices, invests in their development and creates opportunities for them to thrive.

“I firmly believe that the women of the NDC are the backbone of our party. They deserve leadership that listens, organises, recognises their contributions, builds their capacity, and creates opportunities for every woman—from the grassroots to the national level,” she stated.

Outlining her vision, Hon. Mensah pledged to build a united, inclusive and stronger Women’s Wing that prioritises effective mobilisation, leadership development, economic empowerment and improved livelihoods for women across the country.

She also appealed to party delegates to support her bid when nominations are officially opened, expressing confidence that together they can build a more vibrant Women’s Wing and an even stronger NDC.

“I humbly seek the trust, confidence and support of delegates when the party opens nominations as we work together to build a more vibrant Women’s Wing and a stronger National Democratic Congress,” she concluded.
