The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has begun a nationwide reorganization exercise aimed at rebuilding its structures and preparing the party for future elections.
According to political activist and NDC member, Nii Ayitey Armah of the Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, the exercise, being led by the National Executive Committee (NEC), is timely and deserves commendation. However, he expressed concern about how the process is being implemented, particularly at the grassroots level.
He described the branch as the backbone of the NDC and the first point of contact between the party and its ordinary members.
“This is where loyalty is built, mobilisation takes place, and discipline is enforced,” he said, adding that any reorganization that weakens branch structures threatens the very foundation of the party.
Nii Armah noted that many party faithful believe the current approach does not adequately protect the integrity of branch-level processes. Without careful planning, he warned, the reorganization could weaken rather than strengthen the party.

He further explained that grassroots members understand their communities and know those who have worked hard for the party over the years. “They are best placed to judge the performance of their branch executives. Respecting their role is key to maintaining unity, fairness, and internal democracy,” he stated.
According to him, reorganization should unite the party and inspire confidence among members, not marginalize loyal party workers. He concluded that the strength of the NDC has always rested on its grassroots and any reform that ignores this reality risks creating division and disaffection within the party.
