GHANA’S Ambassador to the Holy See, H.E. Sir Ben Batabe Assorow, on Thursday, November 13, 2025, officially presented his Letters of Credence to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican.

Following the formal ceremony, Ambassador Assorow held a private meeting with the Pope in the Holy Father’s Library. During their discussion, Pope Leo XIV praised the long-standing and strong relations between Ghana and the Holy See and reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to supporting human and spiritual development for all people, regardless of their faith.
The Pope highlighted the Church’s role in education, health care, social outreach, and promoting justice and peace. He also stressed the importance of peace globally and encouraged ongoing support for the poor, marginalized, and those affected by conflict.

The Holy Father expressed delight at the partnership between the Ghanaian government and the Catholic Church in areas such as education, health, agriculture, and socio-economic development.
He welcomed information about Ghana’s upcoming milestones, including the 70th Independence Anniversary in 2027 and the 150th Anniversary of the Catholic Church in Ghana in 2030.
Responding to a request for a Papal Visit to Ghana, Pope Leo XIV said he looked forward to visiting the country and assured that the President of Ghana would always be welcome at the Vatican.
Ambassador Assorow, speaking on behalf of the President and people of Ghana, conveyed fraternal greetings to the Holy Father. He highlighted the strong ties between the two states, which began in 1975 and were further strengthened in 2013 when Ghana appointed a Resident Ambassador to the Holy See.
During the meeting, Ambassador Assorow also briefed the Pope on Ghana’s Reset Agenda, including a 24-hour economic programme, efforts to combat illegal mining, and a robust anti-corruption campaign, all aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians.

He expressed hope that a future visit by Pope Leo XIV, whether before or during the 2027 and 2030 celebrations, would be a blessing for Ghana and the wider region. He also mentioned that the President of Ghana hopes to visit the Vatican next year.
At the end of the audience, the Pope granted his Apostolic Blessing to Ambassador Assorow, his delegation, and by extension to the President, Government, and people of Ghana.
Ambassador Assorow was accompanied by his family, members of his diplomatic team, and representatives of the Ghanaian Catholic community in Italy.
