THE AYAWASO Central Municipal Assembly, led by Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Rudolf Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams and Member of Parliament Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu, has completed rehabilitation works on several inner roads in and around the Mallam Atta Market in Accra.

The newly commissioned roads are expected to reduce both human and vehicular traffic congestion in the busy market area, while also enhancing safety for traders, shoppers, and drivers.
According to the MCE, the project included proper construction of drainage systems to handle large volumes of rainwater and prevent flooding. He noted that the open gutters in the area had previously posed dangers to motorists and pedestrians, often leading to accidents. “This intervention will stop unnecessary incidents of cars falling into open gutters,” he said.
In an interview, Hon. Rudolph Collingwoode-Williams added that more inner roads around the market would soon be constructed to make the entire area motorable.

He also revealed that plans are underway to upgrade the Mallam Atta Market into a modern 24-hour market, which is expected to boost local businesses and create more jobs.
MP for Ayawaso Central, Hon. Abdul-Rauf Tubazu, also urged traders and market women to remain patient as additional drainage and road works continue. He assured them that the ongoing works would improve sanitation and hygiene, especially for food vendors.

“The culverts and concrete slabs placed over the gutters will help reduce flooding and stop refuse from entering the drains. We need a clean environment where we can safely sell and buy food,” the MP stated.
