Black Stars Budget: Clarifications Emerge Amid Minister’s Claims

SENIOR JOURNALIST MOHAMMED AMINU LAMPTEY.

FRESH details have come to light following recent comments by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, on the proposed budget for the Black Stars’ World Cup qualifier against Chad.

Investigations by The Loop reveal key differences between the Ministry’s public statements and what was actually proposed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

First, The Loop confirms that Black Stars Management Committee members do not receive winning bonuses. These bonuses are paid only to players.

The current system, which has been in place since before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, gives players 10,000 per win in qualifiers. However, $5,000 is paid after each win, and the remaining $5,000 is only paid if Ghana qualifies for the World Cup. This is not a new policy.

On logistics, the budgeted amount for transportation and fuel covers the old team bus (bought in 2008), a mini-van, match officials’ vehicles, and hired transport when needed, as was done for the Chad game. Fuel for the main team bus has always been paid for by the GFA, not government.

In response to the confusion, respected sports journalist Mohammed Aminu Lamptey is calling on the Ministry to improve internal communication, especially between the accounts and media departments.

“…Wrong information can mislead the public, damage trust, and create unnecessary tension. Even when corrected, it may still affect decisions and public perception,” he said.

He also urged the GFA to improve its crisis communication strategy, using clear and consistent information backed by facts, especially as Ghana prepares for two crucial World Cup qualifiers.

HON. KOFI IDDIE ADAMS, MINISTER OF YOUTH AND SPORTS

When this issue settles, both the Ministry and the GFA are encouraged to review what went wrong, learn from it, and strengthen their internal systems going forward.

Ghana needs focus, unity, and clear communication. Now is the time to support the team, not fuel confusion.
