THE GHANA Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced a special bonus scheme aimed at supporting licensed gold miners and combating gold smuggling.
In a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the Board’s Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minka, revealed that a temporary bonus of GHS832 will be paid per pound of gold sold to GoldBod-accredited dealers.
This means a pound of gold, which previously sold for GHS8,868, will now fetch GHS9,700 on the local market. The intervention comes in response to growing concerns from licensed miners about declining gold prices due to the appreciation of the Ghana cedi in recent months.

GoldBod explained that the bonus is a measure to cushion miners who have contributed significantly to Ghana’s gold production and foreign exchange earnings. The agency stressed that such contributors should not suffer the unintended consequences of the cedi’s strengthening—an outcome they helped the nation achieve.
All accredited GoldBod traders across the country have been resourced and instructed to promptly begin disbursing the bonus to eligible miners.
