DEPUTY EDUCATION Minister and MP for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Apaak, has strongly criticized the United Kingdom Bar Council and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association over their joint statement calling for the reinstatement of suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo.
According to Dr. Apaak, the two international legal bodies have been misled by individuals pushing a false narrative, leading them to issue what he described as an “unfounded” and “colonialist-induced” demand.
“It baffles me how you are strangely unhappy with lawful actions undertaken as dictated by the constitution of our nation,” Dr. Apaak wrote in a social media post.
“….your collaborators have deceived you into damaging your reputation with these baseless demands. Withdraw your unjustified statement and apologise to Ghanaians,” he posited.
He stressed that Ghana is a sovereign state governed by a constitution, and President John Dramani Mahama’s actions are within the legal framework of that constitution.

Dr. Apaak further described the UK and Commonwealth lawyers’ appeal as “impudent” and accused them of attempting to impose foreign influence on Ghana’s internal affairs. “Ghanaians will not tolerate such nonsensical colonialist-induced insults, disguised as demands,” he cautioned.
His comments follow a joint statement by the UK Bar Council and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, expressing “serious concern” over Justice Torkornoo’s suspension.
The groups urged President Mahama to reinstate her “without delay,” claiming that the suspension violated Ghana’s legal procedures.
The government has yet to issue an official response to the international backlash.
