PRESIDENT John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled one of his key promises by ensuring that Assembly Members across the country begin receiving a monthly allowance of GHC 1,300.
This marks a significant shift in local governance, as Assembly Members, who play a vital role in grassroots development; have long complained about being neglected and working without proper financial support.
The payments, which began this month, are part of President Mahama’s broader agenda to strengthen local governance and empower elected local officials to perform their duties effectively.

By backing words with action, the government signals its commitment to decentralization and accountability at the local level. Many Assembly Members have welcomed the move, describing it as timely and a major morale booster.
“This allowance shows that President Mahama respects the work we do in our communities,” one Assembly Member stated.
The move is expected to improve participation in local government and help ensure better delivery of services at the district level.
