MINISTRY of Health has thrown its full support behind a landmark partnership between South Korea’s GL RAPHA and Ghana’s Quintex Pharma to establish a state-of-the-art biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Akuse.

The high-impact project, hailed as a game-changer for Ghana’s health and industrial sectors, will focus on the production of critical care injectable medicines. It is expected to create over 560 direct skilled jobs and serve as a center for pharmaceutical training and technology transfer.

The planned facility will also significantly reduce Ghana’s reliance on imported medicines, enhance national emergency preparedness, and position the country as a key pharmaceutical exporter within the AfCFTA and ECOWAS markets.

During a high-level meeting with the investors, Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, described the project as “strategically aligned” with the government’s priorities, especially in promoting pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and supporting the 24-Hour Economy initiative.

“This initiative will not only improve access to life-saving medicines but also drive industrialization and skills development in the health sector,” the Minister stated, iterating government’s commitment to facilitating its implementation.

The project is poised to place Ghana at the forefront of pharmaceutical innovation and manufacturing in West Africa.
