IN A SIGNIFICANT step toward strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system, the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has officially inaugurated the newly constituted boards of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH).
The ceremony, held in Accra, marks a renewed drive toward healthcare transformation and effective institutional leadership.
Hon. Akandoh described the inauguration as more than ceremonial, stating that it signals a firm commitment by the Ministry to enhance healthcare delivery through sound governance and strategic oversight.

“The Ghana Health Service is the frontline of care, from our CHPS compounds to regional hospitals. It is central to our reforms,” the Minister said. He charged the new board to drive innovation, prioritize service quality, and work with dedication to improve health outcomes nationwide.
Turning his attention to the Ho Teaching Hospital, the Minister emphasized its dual role as both a lifesaving facility and a training center for Ghana’s future medical professionals.

He urged the board to strengthen partnerships, address infrastructure and staffing challenges, and ensure the hospital lives up to its mandate.
The Minister acknowledged the sector’s challenges, including funding constraints, brain drain, and shifting disease patterns, but urged the new boards to meet them with a renewed sense of purpose.
“Let today mark a turning point. Let’s get to work, because the health and well-being of our people depend on it,” he stressed.

Prof. Fred Newton Binka, Chair of the GHS Board, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to uphold professional standards, transparency, and innovation in health service delivery.
Similarly, Dr. Delanyo Yao Tsidi Dovlo, Chair of the HTH Board, thanked the Ministry for the trust placed in them and vowed to work collaboratively to elevate healthcare services in the Volta Region and beyond.

Hon. Akandoh reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing the boards with the policy frameworks, infrastructure, and resources needed to achieve their objectives as Ghana works toward universal health coverage and a more resilient healthcare system.
